culinarycosplay:Hayao Miyakai is a genius when it comes to animated food. Okay, he’s a genius when it comes to animation, but wherever i watch Spirited Away or Ponyo I always get the munchies for foods I don’t usually have. The Midwest doesn’t have the best Japanese restaurants amazingly enough. But for those of you who have watched Ponyo and thought that a bite of Ponyo’s deluxe ramen would be a piece of heaven, sit down and read up. As you slurp the last few noodles, you’ll almost be able to hear Liam Neeson yelling “Respect your father!” from outside your window. You can get miso paste and dashi is any Asian market, be it Korean, Japanese, Chinese, whatever you have near you. If you have no asian markets, I’m so sorry, this meal is not for you. Miso will be refrigerated, dashi comes in either little paper packages like short pixie sticks or squat bottles. PONYO’S RAMEN (HAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!)4 packages instant ramen4 cups chicken broth4 cups water4T Miso paste1 1/3t Dashi powdera few dashes of soy sauce2 soft boiled eggsgreen onionsslice of cooked hamDiscard the flavor packet. Add both the water and chicken broth to a pot, turn the heat on to medium. Once the broth is hot, add the dashi powder and dissolve. When that’s dissolved, drop in the miso paste and stir. This would be a good time to put a smaller pot filled with salted water onto another burned, heat on medium-high. Back to the broth, make sure to break up the miso paste clumps. once that is boiling, add the noodles. the smaller pot should be boiling soon, and once it is, add 2 eggs and cook for 5 minutes. once those 5 minutes are up, remove the eggs from the boiling water and drop into a bowl of cold water. Once the ramen is cooked to how you like it, splash in some soy sauce and stir, then serve in 4 bowls. peel the eggs (they will be soft, but still firm enough to peel) and cut in half- the yolks are still runny, do this quickly or over one of the ramen bowls. Put ½ into each bowl. the ham is something to do on your own time- broil a slab or get pre-cooked, I’m not telling you how to make the ham. Just get ham and stick it on the top next to the eggs. You can slice up some spring onions for garnish if you want. -K -- source link
