did-you-kno:The current American flag was designed by a 17-year-old. In 1958, Robert G. Heft thought Hawaii and Alaska would soon become states, so he designed a 50-star flag for a history project. He got a B-. When Eisenhower called to tell him his design had been selected out of 1,500 others, his teacher changed his grade to an A. SourceTo be fair to his teacher, he pretty much just made the same flag but staggered the stars instead of lining them up evenly so he could fit in the extra two.Like if I were a teacher I would also have been like “That is the laziest least creative way you could have designed a new flag. This was a call in effort if I ever saw one.”Like the 48-star flag was essentially the exact same flag. And while I can see why the country went for consistency, that doesn’t mean this kid wasn’t taking the easiest route out of the assignment. -- source link
