writingwithcolor:cheetahismyfavoritecolor:abbiehollowdays:ablackwomansurvivingrape:This is why I would not go back to a white therapistI might have shared this before, but I had a white therapist actually mimic rubbing her eyes while making baby crying sounds after I told her I was feeling alone and was isolating. (This was after a solid year of stress-induced insomnia, people quitting and being let go at work, having a close friend move out of state, and being in an accident.) Like…no empathy. No understanding.smfh someone fire that bitch. This is why the strong black woman stereotype is damaging to us. It erases our humanity, our vulnerability. It makes you see only one thing when you look at us, when in actually we are just like anyone else. Black girls cry, black girls self harm, black girls have body issues, black girls if anything suffer the most from low-self esteem because of the daily reminders we get from society that we are not good enough because we typically do not fit into european beauty standards. So next time someone tries to tell you that you cannot be sad because you are supposed to be a ”strong black woman” tell them to stop watching these lame ass tyler perry movies and to look you in the eye as a fellow human being, a human being that is hurt, a human being who is seeking for help. Fuck the strong black woman stereotype! All of the above. -- source link
