Happy Juneteenth everyone! Today celebrates the abolition of slavery in Texas, which occurred on June 19th, 1865. Texas was the first state to establish Juneteenth as an official holiday. Currently, it is celebrated across the United States as the general end of slavery.Today, we are showcasing materials of two well-known abolitionists: Frederick Douglass and John Brown. Additionally, we have the autobiography of James L. Smith, who escaped slavery in the late 1830s and recounted his life in the North through the time of the Civil War.
