deepwaterwritingprompts:Text: You could say I made a deal with a demon. In reality, it was more of a parent trap situation. Yeah, that’s what I said, like the 1961 movie The Parent Trap staring Hayley Mills, or the 1998 remake starring Lindsay Lohan. That was the gimmick, one child star playing a pair of long-separated twins - you thought you were yourself, but all of a sudden here’s another you, an entirely different self, to be spliced together in editing. That was what it was like, signing a deal with a demon. All this time I’d thought I was a perfectly mundane human being with neck pains and adult acne and a job in data entry, and then all of a sudden it turns out there’s another me, an immortal soul damned to hell. We swapped places. That’s the gimmick, the titular parent trap. We were identical, really, practically impossible to tell apart. It’s my immortal soul that fills out spreadsheets, falls asleep past midnight, flicks crumbs off the counter, swipes through Tinder, masturbates, watches Netflix. And it’s my corporeal form with all its fatty tissue and glands and instincts and squishy organs that’s damned to spend an eternity burning in hell. We’re hoping they’ll have to meet up to swap us back once they realize, reconcile. Maybe they’ll fall in love again, who knows? But so far, we both fit in seamlessly - the ape-self waiting anxiously in dread, the undying core of self embedded into the world. It’s scary just how alike we are, as if we were always interchangeable. The British accent, though, that took a little work. -- source link
