harlequinnade:31 Days, 31 Childhood Favorites | day sixteen↳ The Nightmare Before ChristmasThere’s not a ton to be said about this one, right? The Nightmare Before Christmas holds up whether you’re a child, an adult, or an angsty middle schooler in the throes of your Hot Topic period. Nightmare also has the distinction of being one of those rare films that shows up during the Christmas programming rotation on TV that isn’t horribly saccharine and terrible. My favorite segment of the film as an adult has to be the montage of children receiving their macabre presents. It’s so genuinely horrible (and by extension, hilarious) that it’s a departure from the rest of the film’s whimsical tone. It makes sense, I guess, that when framed in the “real world,” the ghoulish presents from Jack and the other monsters would appear much less palatable. Although, I wouldn’t turn down a shrunken head in my stocking. -- source link
