dancinbutterfly:fbf-art:the–queen-of-hell:veritasarah:micdotcom:Watch: Jesse Williams is done with these excuses“Democracy is not a sham, it’s a job. It’s our job. And it took too goddamn long to get it to just let it slide.”Listen to Marcus y'allVote. Because to vote is to show you are still willing to fight. So you know what happened to day that PROVES you need to vote?Matt Gaetz - who the WaPo has dubbed the Trumpiest Repulbican - Voted with the Democrats to limit the President’s war powers. Now, you can say what you like? But I grew up in his district. There’s 2 of the largest aviation military bases in the fucking world in the 2 counties he’s sitting on including the place where Navy Pilots train and Air Force SOCOM is headquartered.Matt Gaetz did what he did today - going against the greater Republican base in Congress - because while the Red blooded MAGA voter is all for the conservative values Fox News preaches and loves being in the military? They DO NOT want a war. They want to go to work on base, and come home and see their kids to school and go to bed in their own homes at nights and their spouses want them to come home at night and their parents want them to be safe and sound. And every single one of them will not change their vote for much - probably not over impeachment, or the environment, or taxes or the economy. BUT. If Matt Gaetz didnt protect them then his position as congressman would be at stake in the next election because they are a very real voting base and if you piss them off and put them at risk? You piss off everyone because EVERYONE in that district at least knows a soldier but is probably related to one and wants the representative who will prevent a war - not cause one because they actually have to face it. He does what he had to - even though it cost him and he hated it and had to grovel to do it - because the vote matters and the constituency has power.I am not saying this makes him a good guy or on the side of the angels - I’m just saying look at the object lesson in this: If you actually show up to vote? Then you actually MATTER to your representative because you ARE their job. Don’t ever let our elected officials forget. It’s not a matter of conscience or decency - it is a matter of continued employment. -- source link
