I was talking about the Earthsea Artbook a few days ago and recommending it. But really, I can recommend the artbooks that have been translated into English as well as some of them can throw out some pretty good advice! Both for art and writing beyond just the pretty visuals. This is from Oga (my hero) who is responsible for almost all of Ghibli’s background paintings (He was the art director on Totoro). Whereas Miyazaki’s comments are mostly story focused, Oga comments more on the artwork. Both are extremely valuable bits of info for both writers and artists and are peppered throughout the artbook.
