self-loving-vampire:Started making this to display various roleplaying games that I consider influential to my own creative style.I have boomer taste. Some games that you might assume I’d like but which aren’t on the list (besides ones I simply haven’t gotten around to playing):Arcanum: I have heard good things about the character creation and options available in this one but while I’ll admit that the core setting idea of a fantasy setting undergoing an industrial revolution is pretty unique some of the details of it didn’t quite land for me so I’m not really in much of a rush to try it.Baldur’s Gate: I have actually played this one but it failed to really grab me. The setting and story feel too generic, the companion characters are one-note, a lot of the outdoor areas feel like padding, and I’m actually not much of a fan of real time with pause. I do hear the sequel is significantly better so at some point I may muster the willpower to get through the game and then see what I think of the sequel.I have a lot to write and play already so I don’t see this happening soon.Knights of the Old Republic: I heard a lot of good things about this but don’t place a high priority on playing it because I’m not super interested in Star Wars to begin with.JRPGs in general: While there are JRPGs I like and which did make it in (like Code Vein and Dark Souls), WRPGs are really what I grew up with and after experiencing the immersive and open worlds of games like Ultima and Fallout most JRPGs feel overly linear and artificial by comparison. The style of western RPGs feels significantly closer to tabletop RPGs as well so it’s only to be expected that I favor it. -- source link
