Once the Ancient Egyptians discovered natural rubber, they did away with linen bandages and began mummifying the dead royalty with sheets of latex.The process was also used on criminals facing the death sentence. Convicted men and women would be restrained and wrapped in thin rubber sheets. All air was removed from in-between the sheets and the convict would slowly suffocate. They were then entombed in underground caverns, all bodies kept sealed and fresh in case spare organs were needed. -- source link
