ebronics:micdotcom:Watch: The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur nailed why millennials get so much sh*t. this. this concept of instant reference is a biggie in the library world. time was you HAD to go to the library for basic stuff, aka “ready reference” (simple shit like foreign capitals, presidents’ terms, average snowfall in Texas) now you can google shit and the profession has been seeing it’s role and the role of reference shift over the last decade or so. libraries are shifting away from ready reference materials (print and digital) and investing more time and money into cultivating reference resources that focus on our shareholders’ interest. for example my library provides a database with knitting patterns and other craft instructions. other libraries provide access to databases for home DIY and car repair. -- source link
