King John II of France (r. 1350-1364) founds the chivalric Order of the Star while sitting on the Throne of Dagobert (the chair with dogs’ heads). Modeled on a Roman curule chair, the seat on which Roman leaders would sit, the throne was first used by Dagobert, who was king of the Franks from 629-639. The seat (which really has lion heads, not dog heads) was used on and off by French rulers until 1804, when Napoleon was the last French ruler to sit upon it.{WHF} {HTE} {Medium} -- source link
