hafanforever:Free SpiritWhat is there in Frozen II that I won’t ever be able to discuss, analyze, and write about in so much depth, especially with “Show Yourself”? In this analysis, I described “Let It Go” and “Show Yourself” as being like the two halves of a whole circle regarding Elsa’s journey of freedom and self-acceptance, that “Show Yourself” finished what “Let It Go” started. One of the things that shows how these songs complement and contrast each other is the types of dress transformations that Elsa undergoes. Look carefully, and you’ll see that there is a significant difference between them. When singing “Let It Go”, notice that Elsa transforms her dress herself, by her own magic, with her own hands, and at her own will. But in “Show Yourself”, Elsa’s dress is transformed not by her own hands, but by the magic of Ahtohallan when she takes her place as the fifth spirit, when she steps on to the centerpiece between the diamonds representing the four elemental spirits. In “Let It Go”, Elsa’s transformation was due to her own conscious effort, her own conscious choices. She chose to run away from Arendelle. She chose to exile herself. She chose to live in total isolation because of her flawed beliefs that gaining her freedom meant that she had to live as far away as possible from those she loved and the rest of the world.Although she did briefly become happy and let go of her fears upon reaching the mountain, Elsa didn’t TRULY find freedom, peace, or completion. Despite being able to suppress them for a while, she was still burdened by her feelings of fear and self-loathing. She was still haunted by the pain of her past. She still believed that no one would ever accept her because of her powers. She didn’t want to hide, though; she wanted to be loved and accepted…but she believed that that would never happen. So despite what she sings during “Let It Go”, Elsa is still hiding herself. She is still living in fear. She still feels unloved. She thinks the world will never see her as anything but a monster. And so she was convinced that it was best for her and everyone else if she just ran away, if she lived alone, away from Anna and Arendelle forever. In “Show Yourself”, Elsa’s transformation is the opposite as that of “Let It Go”, because she doesn’t do it herself. It happens without any conscious effort on her part. By this point, she has discovered the purpose of her existence. She has discovered her true destiny as the fifth spirit. She has found her true calling in the world, and she wholeheartedly accepts and embraces it all. She is overwhelmed, but also overjoyed, and she cries to express this joy.Again, Elsa is making a choice here, one about her future, but it differs from before because this time, she BELIEVES it for herself. She’s truly ready to let it go (pardon the pun, but I just CAN’T resist! ) and face what’s ahead of her without being held back by the past. Her transformation appears so effortless since it was happening to her WITHOUT the use of her own magic to exhibit what she was feeling inside. Elsa finally finds her closure and she’s now ready to become who she was meant to be: free, happy, and complete. By now, there is no more hiding for Elsa. No more running away. No more holding back. No more fear. No more thinking she’s unworthy of love. She knows that she’s loved. She knows she has a place in the world. She knows what she’s meant to do with her life. She finally sees herself the way Anna sees her, and it’s the same way the memory of her mother looks at her as they share a duet. ❤️Elsa is finally free. She is finally complete. She is finally at peace. She is finally happy…but she’s not alone. Thank you, @vuelie for your input in my gifset about these transformations!
