It’s looking right at us! This poor toad has a macromutation that caused its eyes to grow inside its mouth. A macromutation is a mutation that has made a significant impact on an organism, caused by a change in a regulatory gene that’s responsible for the expression of an array of structural genes. Although we don’t know when this photo was taken, we do know it was found in a garden by two little girls in Ontario, that it appears in the 1996 Richard Dawkins Book ‘Climbing Mount Improbable’ and was originally published in a local Canadian newspaper, The Hamilton Spectator. : Scott Gardner/The Hamilton Spectator -- source link
