TFW you realize he’s not actually capable of familial love, and that his affections for you were a patchwork ersatz love, poorly crafted by a man who doesn’t fully grasp that other people exist. TFW you wonder when it could have been different, when you could have made the choice to just marry one of the nice Jewish girls from Westchester, maybe run The Observer and do some philanthropy on the side like all the other fortunate sons.
