The War Office foundthat many jobs done by soldiers in France could be done by womeninstead, so the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was formed inDecember 1916. It was renamed Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps inApril 1918.The Women’s Royal Navy Service (WRNS) was established in November1917, and the Women’s Royal Air Force on April 1st, 1918.
