It’s no wonder the US is so gung ho Israel. We’re still stuck in the mindset of treating them as a 2nd world country that has an affinity for the Russkies! Win ‘em over, make ‘em a pawn for our side!^^^^^^^^^^^^^BINGO. There are real-politik issues, which I’ve touched on on other posts, but part of the US initial involvement definitely involved Soviet Chess.in fact, before 48, the Soviets were almost sure, that Jewish settlements in Palestine are more fond of them, than of the Western Allies, exactly because the British sank their aliyah ships into the sea during the Peel White Book period, while the US did nothing except restricting post-Holocaust immigration to their territory.after the 48 UN resolution Washington freaked out on the prospect of the Soviets setting feet in the new state, so they turned pro immediately and started to send aid and supplies. disappointed the Soviets turned to the Arab states as they needed Middle Eastern resources.BINGO.I mean, frankly, if the imperial power that controlled your ancestral homeland wouldn’t let you emigrate NOR let you into their own country, and ALSO sunk boats full of refugees fleeing a fucking genocide, I wouldn’t align myself with them either. So yeah. not surprising. But this is exactly how Western involvement with Israel fell during post WWII era, and it all has to do with geo-political chess and who could control the Middle East for their own gain, and damned be the people who live there! -- source link
