October 2015 - Clover!Clovers are coming up in the paths! Finally! We LOVE clover. It’s a pain to get the perennials established, and since it is in our paths we’re carefully tip-toeing through the garden so we don’t damage them while they’re so tender and young.I can’t explain what clover does for a garden. It makes the soil come alive. I’ll never forget the transformation it did for the soil in our old community garden. It feels like clover allows the soil to heal itself, perhaps by the mycorhizzal activity it instigates? Anyway, this is a mix of various white perennial clovers and biennial red clover. We planted it right before the major storm the other week. The biggest secret to clover we’ve found is to just keep reapplying it, preferably before rain. If you have an area that is full of something already established, like grass, it can be difficult to get clover going there. This is at least our third round of perennial clover application.Crimson clover is another story entirely, as an annual I seed it into the beds in fall, where it is very easy to grow. -- source link
