kataangcaps:I feel like this cap basically summarizes why Kataang is the otp to end all otps and why I could never ship either of them with other people. I just wouldn’t be able to reconcile any other ships with the closeness and intimacy that exists between Aang and Katara, and the fact that these two will always have that between them, regardless of whether their relationship became romantic or remained platonic. They would always come first for each other, they would drop everything if the other called, and I honestly believe they could never give up that aspect of their relationship no matter how hard they tried. That’s why every other ship falls apart for me, because unless it’s a complete AU where Aang and Katara never met, the bond they formed in the very first episode, when they went penguin sledding and Katara wanted to leave her family for a kid she just met, would be incredibly difficult to break. And even if they didn’t get together and tried dating other people, it wouldn’t be fair to anyone cause their strongest feelings would still be for each other (platonic or otherwise). There’s just too much between them, too much they’ve been through, and too much they wouldn’t let go of for any other relationship to have a shot. I mean, how can you compete with that. Katara had dreamed her whole life that the Avatar would return; she was probably the only person in the world who still believed in him when everyone else thought he abandoned them, and she ends up finding this boy, taking care of him when he has literally no one else and helping him save the world. And for Aang, he wakes up from a hundred year sleep with everything he knew and loved completely destroyed, and the only person who gets him through it all and inspires him to keep fighting is Katara. In The Desert, Katara is the only one who can pull him out of his rage and as a parallel, in The Southern Raiders, Aang was the one who understood what Katara needed to find closure. I wouldn’t envy anyone who tried to come between Aang and Katara because you just can’t. You can argue about how the romance was developed in the time frame of the show, but it’d be pretty hard to deny that eventually that bond would become overwhelming and turn into something non-platonic. Maybe it wouldn’t happen when Aang is 12 but you can bet your ass that by the time they’re 16/18, it would become so inevitable that everyone else might as well just give up. -- source link
