Monumental Church, Richmond, ole Virginny, 2014.Completed in 1814, Monumental Church was one of the first Greek Revival Style Buildings in the US and was built partially as a memorial on the site of the Richmond theatre fire of 1811 which killed 72 people. The church was designed by two of the most distinguished architects of the early United States, Benjamin Henry Latrobe and Robert Mills, though after a contentious design process the latter is given credit. The building was deconsecrated by the Episcopal diocese and now is used mostly for ceremonial functions. It is adjacent to the Medical College of Virginia (VCU), and Monumental Church shares a city block with MCV’s equally historic but more famous Egyptian Building. -- source link
