drtanner-art:When I first began travelling with Rauf, his parents and their friends, I worried a lot that they would get bored of having to wait for me all the time while I ate and rested, but on the contrary, they revelled in having an excuse to stop every night and exercise their combat prowess, usually by testing themselves against each other. After all, if a knight can’t fight well, he’ll be hard pressed to protect anybody who needs him; perfecting these most essential skills is, therefore, a favourite pastime amongst Mystic Knights. However, having never even so much as thrown a punch before in my life myself, watching them fight was difficult to begin with. There were no weapons, and no magic, just fists and their wits, and as I watched Rauf’s fathers - or two of them, at least - sparring, they did not hold back much, if anything. Mystic Knights are famously resilient, but even so, I couldn’t help but flinch with every impact. They struck each other with force enough to crush a man’s skull, but it was barely even enough to give either of them any pause, and Rauf and the rest of their fellows raucously cheered for them both with every blow, merrily egging them on. As much as I’d grown up hearing stories of these knights and their habits, this was my first true introduction to their culture, and it would take me a long time to become accustomed to it. I got this one finished in record time! I almost didn’t put the crowd of spectating knights in the background, but I decided, since I’d finished so quickly, that I probably better had, and I’m glad I did. This piece would have been very empty without them and is much more expressive and lively for their presence. <3 Enjoying my work? - PATREON - ✅ KO-FI ✅ - Reblogs are free! Here’s last night’s Inktober piece!
