inventerius:My CellSeveral years ago I built a cell in my attic for a play vacation with someone. At that time I did not have a welding machine and also did not know how to weld yet so the bars in the front are made out of metal tubes in a wooden frame. Drilling the holes in the top beam at an angle was a bit of a challenge but it worked out nicely. It is not super pretty and sexy looking but it does the job. Because it functions fine and I do not use it very often I have not gotten around to making a steel version of the front. The floor size is about 180 x 180 cm and the top height is about 170 cm. The blue thing in the picture is an adult size sleeping bag to give a bit of a size reference. There is space underneath the door so a plate with food can be shoved in. also the middle bar in the door can be unlocked and moved up into the thicker middle pipe above the door. This will allow the girl to stick her head outside. After that the bar comes down again locking her head in place. That way she can be fed a plate of food outside the door or be used for other options.Because I wanted to lock the girl in it while I was away from home the cell needed an fire escape option. Therefore I have made the side of plaster board. This is sturdy but using some force it can be broken by her in case of a house fire or other reason where evacuating the house is necessary. The white area in the right of the picture is the glare of my flash on a similar wall as on the left of the picture. In the left lower corner part of the ladder can be seen used to get into the attic. This means that when the latter is removed and the hatch is closed the cell is completely out of the way and no one knows someone is there. As part of the fire escape option I have made a rope ladder hanging above the hatch that can be used to get down when the ladder is not there. The attic has two little windows (40x40 cm) that provide a little light and ventilation in summer. Although it can get really hot there in summer. It also gets cold in winter as it is a storage space and there is no central heating there. But with enough blankets it is usable. Great description. -- source link
