earthstory:Fault-bend foldOne common way that sedimentary rock layers can be bent into anticlines and synclines is by the formation of a “Blind thrust”, a thrust fault that does not reach the surface. The faulted layers ride up a ramp, pushing the sedimentary layers above them upwards. They fold into a distinctive pattern of an anticline next to a syncline as illustrated in this schematic.
