octopusgirl:Spider, Louise Bourgeois, 1997In her installations, Bourgeois creates eerie, sinister tableaux of inner lives and imprisoned memories. She constructs enclosed spaces in which fragmented images evoke secret histories of pain and desire. In this one, pieces of torn tapestry suggest the rich interiors of her childhood. Her father had a gallery that sold tapestries, so fine, colorful antique textiles were the stuff of her earliest experiences. Over this cage of nostalgia presides a spider, spinner of silk and guardian of secrets. (x) -- source link
