A Scottish Baronial House (1907), by J.W. Waterhouse This is really an oddball in the works ofWaterhouse. His signature on the canvas isthe only indication that he might have actually painted it because Waterhouse didnot paint any other landscapes or naturalistic works. Furthermore, the quality is so poor that Ican’t help thinking that it is a fake.On the other hand, it is not inconceivable that Waterhousewas commissioned to paint one of the estates of the Henderson family. The only problem is that the painted housedoes not exist and has sprouted out of the imagination of the painter. The painting will probably remain an enigmaforever. -- source link
