Traje de vistas from La Alberca, Salamanca, Spain1. A brideThis costume was originally a wedding dress that over time has lost its nuptial character to become festive clothing linked to the celebration of processions and offertories. In La Alberca there are currently different types of party outfits for every occasion. This costume can be seen during the celebration of two festivities: the procession of Corpus Christi and the “Diagosto” or the feast of Our Lady of the Assumption that takes place on August 15 and 16. On those days, the women exhibit in their clothing their families’ wealth. Women thus become symbols of ostentation, wealth, and family position within the community. The costume is loaded with symbolic and protective elements against evil, misfortune and illness, among which jewelery stands out. The set consists mainly of reliquaries, patens, medals, crucifixes, rosaries, rings, buckles, brooches, necklaces and earrings. Particularly noteworthy are the dirjeros: sets of silver chains that are fastened to eyelets made in the armpits of the doublet - from which they hang medals, crosses and amulets - and the so-called heart of the bride , a hollow piece made in silver with the image of Christ on one side and the Virgin on another, and from which hang five small images in the shape of half moons, heads of angels or higas that are placed on the heart.
