david-box:mutantapologist:I feel really self conscious posting non-fandom art on here :(this is one of those moments where you’re learning about your people’s history in school and all your classmates are either making jokes or just not paying attentionSmall history lesson for context: Signs with saami place names were finally put up in the 1990s, after a long history of the government trying to wipe out saami culture and languages. These signs would get painted over, vandalized, and shot at until they were unreadable. I saw one of them on a museum trip in 7th grade, the saami name was completely destroyed, while the rest of the sign was left alone. I don’t know why I still remember it so well 9 years later[Image ID: Two digital illustrations featuring a young girl with long brown hair in a braid, a red hoodie, and blue jeans walking past signs in a museum written in Norwegian and originally in Saami as well. The norwegian names are intact, but the Saami names have been shot at to the point where they’re destroyed. The first illustration shows the young girl looking through a window towards the sign from inside a room. In the upper left side, there is a Saami flag. The second illustration shows the girl outside of the room in the hallway full of people seemingly not noticing the sign at all. End ID] -- source link
