She did not write black Hermione. Her backtracking and saying “Oh yes but she could have been!” post publication is not representation and it barely scrapes by as “canon” tbh. Fans created black Hermione. They deserve the credit for this. JKR’s “it’s so magical [and i am so magnanimous] that people believe xyz in their headcanons” attitude towards people adding diversity to her super bland series gives me a real headache some days and this is important to keep in mind. diversity is not a strength of the HP series and JKR doesn’t deserve really any credit for it. -- source link
