So, uh, who remembers De Facto, who is most definitely not my Stand? Because he has a Stand Master now, whose name is Mars Volta, and he is most definitely, absolutely not me or any wishful-thinking representation of me, or a self-insert, or anything else of that nature, at all, ever. Ever.Absolutely not. /coughI haven’t had much time to think about Mars, except that he’s a currently travelling storyteller, having previously been a salesman, and that he’s used his Stand’s major ability to great effect in both of these pursuits. That ability, namely, being simply that when Mars speaks through his Stand, anyone he is speaking to will clearly understand his point of view and the position from which he is speaking.For example, in his previous sales work, Mars might have used De Facto to explain to someone why they ought to buy whatever he was selling, and, provided that Mars himself believed in the points he was making and was telling the truth to the best of his knowledge, the person listening to him would come to understand matters as Mars did. They’re under no obligation to agree, of course - it’s not mind control - but suddenly finding yourself with an innate understanding of a speaker’s point of view can make it difficult not to, particularly if you’re not expecting it. Normal people can’t see Stands, and Mars has known it for a very long time. De Facto’s ability, since it’s also functional through the written word, recordings, or any other method of communication, also means that Mars finds it easy to convey the same emotion and vision through the stories he tells that he himself felt when writing them, and to share them with his audience. As a result, his stories are often quite popular, when they manage to find an audience, and Mars quickly gains a reputation if he’s ever able to make himself heard. De Facto’s minor abilities include some fairly run of the mill stuff: there’s very little that it can’t pick up and lift, for instance, and its grip, once it grabs hold of something, is unnaturally vicelike and requires equally unnatural power to escape from. Really. Good luck prying De Facto’s hands from around something once they’re on it. I’ll probably colour this at some point in the near future sometime soon eventually one day before I die.  -- source link
