liapetros:crazyintheeast:deviantlydino:scorpyho:Happiest Season (2020)I really appreciated that they didn’t demonize Harper’s character in this scene. While she made choices that ultimately hurt her partner, they humanized the struggle LGBTQ+ people face when revealing their authentic selves to family and the ramifications that can have. That experience really is different for everyone. Sometimes it can be easy to forget that not everyone is at the same point of acceptance with all aspects of their sexuality or gender identity; we are all on different journeys and someone else being in a different place in their journey does not mean they’re invalid, or a horrible person. Having empathy and understanding for our own people is important too. That said, it’s also okay to want a partner that is in the same place you are at in your journey. And it’s so sad how many people completely missed this messageExactly. I know some of us are tired of coming out stories in LGBTQI+ movies but the lack of empathy within the community only shows why these stories are still in need to be told. The (excessive, imo) backlash the movie faced proves exactly this “lack of empathy within the community” -- source link
