happyjacq:clonefusion:I want you to tell me why she’s different than we are.I was gonna put this in the tags, but it got a little long and, plus, I’m evil and I’ve decided to subject you all to my emotion-destroying headcanons. So, you know, a lot of people are interpreting this scene like Rachel might have really wanted to have kids. And I am down for this interpretation. I think it has a lot of merit. But, there’s something really terrible and ominous about the alternate possibility that Rachel might never have wanted children for herself, but the Dyad might have tried to force her to breed in order to further their own creationist god-complexes. Raised as a Pro-Clone from the time she was just a child, Rachel could have been conditioned to believe that this was her purpose, and when she came of age, could have been subjected to a really sick kind of intercourse, totally devoid of love or affection (see: George Orwell’s 1984). And then, once it was discovered that she couldn’t have children, that none of the clones could have children, it could have been like this internal sigh of relief, while at the same time being this fierce feeling of having disappointed the only family she’s ever known. And now that Sarah’s come out of the woodwork, with her daughter in tow, all those simultaneous feelings and fears are resurfacing. And it’s all super warped and painful and totally emotion-destroying, I’m sorry. -- source link
