firlachiel:book-historia:Another year, another London Antiquarian Bookfair! Taking place every year at the London Olympia exhibition centre, this ABA bookfair is not only a great place to look at the wares of internationally esteemed booksellers, but to catch up with bibliophile friends and acquaintances. This year, exhibitors really pulled out all the stops, with treasures ranging from the VERY BIG (like the armored antiphonal in the 8th picture and the massive map in the last) to the teeny weeny (like the set of miniature guides to Windsor Castle in the 9th picture, sold by Bernard Quaritch). Fine bindings were also in abundance, particularly in the Sangorski and Sutcliffe booth, but also in the form of lovely 16th century contemporary tooled bindings like in the 5th image. A highlight for me were the books of paper samples from Nees & Co., as seen in the 3rd image. The company was famed for developing Cambric paper, a method of coating coloured paper in shellac to make to colours more vibrant and durable. 18 of their paper sample books were for sale, but were unfortunately out of my price range at £68,700!@team-laufeyson Looks like one for you :3 -- source link
