Fun Roman History Fact,The head of the Roman throwing javelin (pilum) was made from a soft and brittle form of cast iron designed to bend or break after one use. The primary purpose of this was to prevent the enemy from chucking it back after use. Also if stuck in an enemy shield, the bent head made it impossible to be removed, thus rendering the shield unusable. -- source link
