coelasquid:athelind:coelasquid:Semple made the CultureHustle pigment line (Pink, Green, Yellow, and Diamond Dust). Neither Semple or Kapoor made vantablack, it was developed between the National Physical Laboratory in the UK and Surrey NanoSystems for industrial purposes. Surrey NanoSystems deemed the material was “not suitable for use in art” because it “require a specialist to apply it” and licensed Anish Kapoor exclusive use of the material in the artistic field. Which kind of sounds like a weak excuse to avoid saying “he paid us a buttload of money so no one else could touch his toys”.Interestingly enough, the loophole that this agreement doesn’t extend to “other sectors” means you ARE still allowed to use it in art if it’s a commercial and you don’t call it “art”. Apparently that falls out of the jurisdiction of Kapoor’s license and graphic designers are already exploiting it;Wait wait wait, this means that I could have my CAR coated in the stuff?I mean apparently it took 400 hours to cover the deodorant can but I guess if you got the bux you can do what you want. -- source link
