the-real-seebs:goodstuffhappenedtoday:A woman rescued a pit bull from a shelter. A week later, the pit bull rescued her son.Pit bulls get a bad reputation, and whether it’s deserved or not is something I’ll let you guys politely debate in the comments (no name-calling!). But TaterTot, a rescue dog who more than earned her keep within a week of being saved from a shelter, deserves a treat. Christi Smith, a Minnesota mom, took TaterTot in a few hours before the dog was scheduled to be euthanized. She planned to foster TaterTot for a while until she could find the 10-month-old pup a permanent home (in my building, probably, where all the pit bulls live so they can stress me out while I’m riding the elevator). But less than a week later, TaterTot lived up to her name when she potatoed Smith’s 4-year-old son’s life. And by “potatoed,” I mean “saved.” It was the middle of the night when TaterTot started “whining and barking and running between” little Peyton and his mom. She wouldn’t let up until Christi came to check on her son, who she found was barely breathing. At the emergency room, docs diagnosed him with dangerously low blood sugar (they’re still not sure why that happened). Without TaterTot’s help—it’s possible she detected a high level of ketones or just had a sixth sense—Peyton might have died. So Christi is even more eager to find a loving forever home for TaterTot. J/k, she’s obviously keeping her.(by Shira Rachel Danan)Via Happy PlaceI’ve mentioned it before, but: A big part of the bad reputation of “pit bulls” comes from the fact that many media outlets, and at least some police, will write “pit bull” for the dog breed in a dog attack even if they have been specifically told it was some other breed, such as “golden retriever”. -- source link
