The question I get most often at the shop is “how do you find all this stuff?” The only honest answer is “all over the place”. We almost always have someone in our crew in the field hunting, watching for estate sales, wading through piles at thrift/antique stores, coordinating private buys, working out trades with other dealers, exploring the countryside, knocking on old farmhouse doors etc. and to be honest it’s a lot of work… sourcing is by far the most challenging aspect of the job (especially during covid season), but it’s also my favorite kind of work. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy running the storefront as well but when I’m holding down the fort at the brick & mortar (like I am today) in the back of my mind I’m always thinking about the next pick and feeling grateful I get to be a treasure hunter.
