From a Roman funerary monument, 30 BC.Shows two provocator gladiators fighting. The writing on the edge tells us that the gladiator on the left was from the training school of Julius Caesar, and had won five times. His opponent lost, but was spared. The man on the right was spared, but was marked with the Greek letter for thanatos (death) meaning he probably died from his wounds anyway.
