hansbekhart:a-social-construct:hansbekhart:kat-har:tora42:kielmeau:Mohawk Indians Applying War Paint in Preparation for D-Day. June 1944Their names were Pvt. Clarence C. Ware (left) and Pvt. Charles R. Plaudo of the 101st Airborne DivisionThank you!@samtalksfunnySo, these guys aren’t Mohawk, and in fact neither of them are Native. The only Native member of the 101st airborne during WW2 was Jack McNeice https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_McNiece, who was a non-enrolled Choctaw. He shaved his head and painted his face before a jump and it caught on with the rest of the unit. Most Mohawk who served were with the codetalkers or regular infantry; the 101st Airborne’s Mohawk thing is part of the US Army’s long history of playing Indian while barring actual Indians.Thank you so much for correcting this post! -- source link
