The Legend of the Jorogumo,In Medieval Japanese folklore there were once tales of a particularly terrifying and deadly monster called the jorogumo. According to the legend, a jorogumo was a giant spider that would bring in prey with the illusion of a beautiful woman. She would hang around streets and desolate roads, enticing men into her quiet and desolate shack with her extraordinary beauty. When the man entered the shack, she would play her biwa, distracting him and hypnotizing him with the stroke of each string. Then when the victim least suspected it, she would bind him up in silk webbing and devour him as her next meal.
