porphyriasuicide:idwraith:shleechan:porphyriasuicide:Not saying it’s highly ethical per say, since there is no authorial consent, there is just a long history of being inspired, referencing, and paying homage to Lovecraft… so it was particularly funny that he would complain about the reference. Isn’t Lovecraft’s shit public domain at this point anyway? And ultimately, stooping to calling someone a “whore” because they don’t like your last name choice? Like what the fuck. You’re allowed to participate in a fandom anyway you like. If he thinks other people haven’t appropriated last names for their online aliases or even used well-known character names for their OCs and stuff like that, he’s sorely mistaken. The level of slut-shaming and ad hominem attacks is hilarious too. Like… was that even necessary? Way to already fuck up your argument before you even made a clear statement, OP. Get a fucking life. Also, get ‘em Porphy! If people paid attention to the author they’d realize that Porphyria is entirely correct. H.P. Lovecraft was part of a great deal of correspondent writing. One of his common fellow writers was Robert E. Howard best known for Conan The Barbarian. The two collaborated and you’d find veiled references to Cimmerian’s in Lovecraft’s work AND references to Cthulhu was mentioned BY NAME is the first draft of the original Conan story. Lovecraft was originally a collaborative writer who worked WITH other writers to create a dynamic mythos. And anyone who has read the original Conan would know that Robert E. Howard had no problem depicting women in various states of sensuality. Which, by implication, indicates that Lovercraft wouldn’t be offended by someone whose name represents a disease requiring blood ingestion. <3 -- source link
