luminarysiralexrluma:Kerry Washington, star of ABC drama series scandalabc, is the first African American actress to have a lead in an American network drama in almost 40 years, since 1974. Three years later, in January of 1977, she was born in Bronx, New York. She started out her early childhood with ballet lessons. During her childhood, she participated in school productions and also a theater group that dealt with social matters. Eventually, she earned a theater scholarship to attend George Washington University.Kerry Washington, an alumni of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, is an intelligent and talented woman who graduated magna cum laude from George Washington University - Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. For each of the four years that she studied there, she received the honor of being named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. She had drafted her own interdisciplinary major combining different branches of knowledge that she wanted to instill into her mind: Theater | Dance | Music | Psychology | Anthropology | SociologyShe worked with the local theater community and helped create a support system, “Shades of the Fine Arts”, for people of color in the arts. In 2008, in honor of her commitment to social advocacy, the Congressional Black Caucus awarded her the Phoenix award.
