melaniehopes:Eowyn/Faramir is a Good Thing. So okay, Eowyn. She’s a Big Damn Hero, right? She lived in a COMPLETELY patriarchal society that would never let a woman be a soldier. Rohan sheltered its women, kept them safe. But fuck that! Eowyn didn’t want to be protected! She wanted to ride horses and use a sword and let her hair flow in the breeze protect her homeland too. And she was damn good at it! She held her own on the front lines of battle. She killed the fucking Witch King of Angmar! Aaaaand then got pretty fucked up by it. (All that time in the Houses of Healing they cut in RotK? Pretty important characterization time.) Lady was never gonna be the same again. BUT THAT’S OKAY. (A little bit okay.) Because she’s got someone by her side who’s never had to watch her get propositioned by Wormtongue, who never thought she couldn’t see battle, who never took her as someone who should be held back. Faramir only ever saw Eowyn as the badass she is. And, oh, poor broken Faramir. Faramir who only ever wanted to be loved and appreciated for what he has to offer (read: a whole fucking boatload). You want a man who’s gonna accept you for who you are? Try a dude who got shit on his entire life for being…what? Not-Boromir? Yeah, this is a guy who is positively brimming with compassion and acceptance for anyone who was ever knocked down for being themselves.(And, can I just say? Seeing this role-reversal from Tolkein of all people is amazing. I love it. Give me every badass hero lady and her sweet house-husband to protect the children.) So anyway. Eowyn and Faramir. A+ lady, A+ dude, A+ couple, would ship again. Two of my favourite characters of the series. Also WHY IS THERE NEVER MORE EOWYN OUT THERE I NEED ALL THE EOWYN I CAN GET IN MY LIFE -- source link
