filmrevues:filmrevues:Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) - dir. Alfonso CuaronAzkaban is certainly my favorite of Rowling’s novels. The introduction of Sirius Black (expertly portrayed by Gary Oldman) as a direct contrast to Snape (expertly portrayed by Alan Rickman) in a series full of shadowy father figures… oh, I love it. I love it, love it. Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) finally breaks through as a well-rounded character here as well.Essentially, everything about this film makes it the best of the franchise, Michael Seresin’s darling cinematography, John Williams’ finally grown-up score, and as always… the delightful Maggie Smith. It’s all here. And Cuaron was clearly the best choice for the job.8.1re-revue: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) - dir. Alfonso CuaronIt’s not even close. This is far and away the best film of the franchise and it’s not because of the books, or the story, or the acting: it’s simply because Alfonso Cuaron knows how to make a damn good film. You could know nothing of Harry Potter or Hogwarts and walk into this movie blind… and you’d still come out having seen something. The characters are all different by the end, and Cuaron just gets the best acting from Emma Watson. If you look at the shot structure just, you’ll see the improvement from Cuaron over Columbus, and even though David Yates finished off the franchise well, it’s really nothing compared to the outdoor scenes in the middle of this film.8.4still my favorite of the HP films -- source link
