The Lee Burton Magazine Rifle Part IIWhen Bethel Burton submitted the Lee Burton Magazine Rifle to the British and American Military, the Brits rejected the design but the Americans were more interested. They requested some modifications, however. First the foldout bayonet was removed. Stock and barrel length was also increased slightly. Most importantly a new feeding system was designed. Whereas the old design had a hopper in which the user dropped cartridges into, the new design had a door on the side of the receiver, which was lowered allowing the insertion of a clip of cartridges. For Bethel Burton, however, the design was a bust as it proved to be too complicated for practical combat use. The famous 30-40 Krag would be selected instead. -- source link
