professortennant:AU in which Rose Tyler is a waitress in an American 1950s diner and the Doctor is the local loon of the town. The Doctor comes in every day in the precise middle of Rose’s shift and demands 3 slices of pie—apple, cherry, and the special. Every day like clockwork. And none of the other waitresses, except Donna, put up with him. They’re intimidated by him, but Rose likes him. Finds him interesting. So one day she drops off his pie and asks him what he’s working on because it’s a slow day at the diner and well, she’d be lying if she said that she didn’t find him even a little bit attractive. The Doctor is startled and sort of just looks at her a little owlishly because he can’t fathom why anyone would talk to him. He’s been branded an outcast and Rose Tyler is the most gorgeous creature in town.He realizes instead of telling her about his work in reversing the polarity of certain electrons, he’s actually said those last words out loud. And she’s blushing fiercely and he’s stammering and sipping at his coffee. Rose shuffles her feet and flashes him a smile and turns to walk away, getting back to wiping down the countertop, but the Doctor panics and tells her to wait.He hands her a fork and offers her a seat in his booth. They share apple pie and life stories and it’s their first date. For the next 50 years, they sit at that booth eating apple pie, every day, exactly in the middle of Rose’s shift. -- source link
