wintertangerine:In the wake of “Independence Day,” we are reopening submissions to our Spotlight Series, We Make America Great.Controversy after controversy in the first year of Trump’s presidency has proven that his and his administration’s behavior is deceitful, corrupt and abusive. Being persecuted and threatened by those in power meant to defend our liberties is nothing new to Americans who are racial, sexual or religious minorities. But the traumatic impact of a bigot ascending to our highest public office is undeniable. In the immediate aftermath of the 2016 U.S Presidential election, many of us were rightfully stunned, outraged and reactionary. We received many powerful submissions dealing with the numbness, confusion and indignation of those first few weeks. But we have now had seven months to reflect. We stand by our commitment to publish work that empowers people to speak out against injustices in our country. For that reason we are re-opening submissions for We Make America Great. Send us your poetry, prose and artwork detailing your personal experiences with oppression, your ways of practicing self-care, of protecting yourself and others in a political climate notoriously hostile towards minority groups. We will publish these works alongside the initial response pieces to create a literary time capsule expressing what marginalized Americans are thinking and feeling during this historic year. A reminder to ourselves and to the world that we exist and we matter. -- source link
