Tom & Charities: ‘I felt very invested in the fate of the country. I went for the first time in February 2015… I do think it’s interesting that it’s the youngest nation in the world and people often don’t know about it. The cost of the civil war on children has been profound and deep… I wanted to go back and see what had changed and meet people again that i’d met before. The physical reality is that the major cities become battle zones. When gunfire breaks out, everybody runs, and children often run in a different direction to their mother or their father, and from that moment they’re separated. UNICEF have a tracing programme which helps re-unify children with parents… and also provide emergency, life-saving water, vaccines… they create safe spaces for education to take place in the absence of schools.’ ~ Discussing his most recent trip to South Sudan with UNICEF (2016)Want to help? -- source link
