#Repost @its_not_schrodingers_autism (@get_repost)・・・Day 16 - Work/School.I’ve always been a high achiever at both until that one time I complained about systemic sexism and bullying in the workplace. This was followed by 8 months (and counting) of sick leave due to stress while they figure out how to avoid being sued (I’m under no illusions as to their motivations for launching an investigation at month 5) ♀️Schoolwork was an escape, I was lucky enough to attend an academically focused school. I had one major bully but she picked on anyone who was different.I’ve been very lucky with the people in my life though, it goes to show how valuable individuals who are comfortable enough in themselves to let go of preconceived ideas are. My prior workplace was a safe space for a lot of different attributes; it was by no means perfect, but having seen how prejudiced and rigid NT workplaces can be now I’m pleased my first jobs were in a healthy environment. One of the major barriers for me returning, if it ever came to that, is how many times I’ve heard those men casually complain or make jokes about people on the spectrum.I was diagnosed while I was off work, so they didn’t do this in front of me knowingly. It always rankled though, that non-attendance at Friday night drinks in a rowdy, crowded pub environment was met with such disdain and mockery. You can say something like “He’ll be at home with his bread, or his lego”, without sneering it.“I never hire bloody aspies they can’t communicate” is another comment made by my boss. But you hired me, before I knew, before you knew, and I was a better communicator than nearly anyone else in your team before I started pushing back and you decided that wasn’t to be tolerated...#autismacceptance #30daysofautismacceptance #actuallyautistic #autisticadult #autisticwoman #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #blossoms #spring #sakura #桜 #さくら #cherryblossoms #cherryblossomseason -- source link
