mistymacallister: I eat a lot of mushrooms - is there anyone who eats as many mushrooms as I do? mushrooms for breakfast, lunch, dinner, you name it - and I sometimes wonder, are there better ways to cook mushrooms? So I went googling ‘the best way to cook mushrooms’, and that’s how I found out about ÖTZI. ••• I’m sure lots of you have heard about ÖTZI already. He was discovered in 1991 in the Otzal Alps on the border between Austria and Italy, so he’s not actually news but he’s news to me. ÖTZI is the natural mummy of a man, a homo sapiens, who lived between 3,400 - 3100 BCE, so he lived about 5,000 years ago in the Copper Age, the Chalcolithic Age, before the Bronze Age - I remember learning about these metal Ages when I was a kid - Copper, Bronze and Iron Eras - and kid me was so looking forward to the Gold Era because I thought, wow, that must have been the best Era of all, gold everywhere, people rich… anyway… there’s no such Era… how disappointing…. anyway….lost my train of thought… let me read what I’ve just written ………. oh, ok…. if you google ‘ÖTZI’ you find all you need to know: what he wore, how tall he was, what his last meal was, what his shoes were like, anything you want to know…. ••• I was so excited to find out about ÖTZI, it really made my day. And then, I found out how he died, and that really pretty much ruined my day, and I totally forgot about mushrooms. ••• ÖTZI was found with an arrowhead in his shoulder, and it is believed that is what finally killed him. And I find that extremely sad. Brings me to tears actually. We could have found ÖTZI because he just died of old age, or maybe he had an unfortunate encounter with a bear or some other animal, but no, we found him because he was murdered by one of his kind, which is our kind. That is… I don’t know… for me it is sad. ••• On a different note, here’s my photo. #mythoughts #picoftheday #bestoftheday https://www.instagram.com/p/CNIfgb3nybk/?igshid=s5r7vgbxj5rq -- source link
