After we found ourselves satisfied with our castle exposure, we headed towards the main street, to pass the cafe where Prince William met his spouse, as the two attended the University of St. Andrews. Although we attempted to grab some coffee at the cafe for the fun of it, the large line leading to the register and overfilled tables lead us to spend our limited time elsewhere. After lunch, we agreed to end our visit with the finale - the St. Andrew’s Golf Course. If an experienced golfer were to approach this course with knowledge of it’s popularity, they would find themselves surprised with the simplicity of the course. St. Andrews isn't known too much for it’s modern innovations, but more for it’s older one, as the Old Course in St. Andrews is known to be the “home” of golf, as the sport was first played here in the early 1400s. We watched some of players master the game in thick sweaters and slacks until we found it was time to head back towards the bus stop. We spoke about how our final travel choices were wise ones and how we were glad to have organized this trip. Doune Castle, with it’s delightful connection to our childhood, and the small and welcoming city of St. Andrews, with its strong, historical Scottish ties, provided a positive close to our Scottish travels. -- source link
